We currently have an opening for a Building Automation Estimator.  Reporting to the Controls Chief Estimator, the Building Automation Estimator will primarily be responsible for the exceptional management of all aspects of estimating projects, preparing proposals, design development and client budgets.


The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, meeting deadlines and developing long term energy conservation strategies for the ICI market.  They also have a passion for learning new technologies and adding value for our customers.  We are looking for an energetic, detail oriented, self-starter who enjoys working in a fast paced environment and values exceptional customer service.


  Pre-Construction Support 

  • Identify, qualify, and track new business prospects including new applications and markets for Modern Niagara products and services.
  • Communicate and document findings into a sales tracking tool for qualification and monitoring.
  • Participate in and add technical input to the Design Build or P3 design teams.
  • Generate proposal prequalification submissions that demonstrate the value of our service offerings.

Ongoing Support 

  • Develop and secure orders for Modern Niagara products, service, maintenance, repair and installation.
  • Secure copies of plans and specifications.
  • Prepare proposals and detailed estimates.
  • Review specifications and obtain clarifications as required and obtain subcontractors pricing when appropriate. 
  • Assist consulting engineers or other design professionals in the application of the company's products and services.
  • Service existing accounts to maintain system performance (including maintenance, repair or re-certification orders).
  • Chair turn-over meetings and communicating client expectations to the operations team.
  • Monitor performance and associated support needs to ensure customer requirements are effectively met.
  • Coordinate with the customer, engineer, owner, and architect, to assist in the resolution of potential issues.

Bid Closing 

  • Bid/close projects to contractors.  Prepare contractors' bid form and arrange for internal review where appropriate.
  • Develop bid strategy with sales team.  Work on project closing as required. 


  • 3-5 years experience is the construction industry a strong asset
  • Engineering degree or relevant post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written
  • Client focused and proven relationship building skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a key member of a team and independently with minimum supervision
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure
