We are currently seeking a VDC Trades Specialist to join our National Team

This position is temporarily a remote work opportunity due to COVID-19.

 

The primary role of the VDC Trades Specialist is to develop and communicate design, manufacturing and installation strategies for building mechanical systems. As the contact between the team in the field and office team you will need to be proficient in multiple 3D programs to coordinate and collaborate throughout the constructions process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Primary role will be to collaborate with VDC Designers to develop and communicate design, manufacturing and installation strategies for building mechanical systems.
  • Act as a liaison between VDC and Field Staff and assist with VDC and Engineering collaboration
  • Understand and be able to communicate the value of VDC
  • Past job experience demonstrating cost savings and optimization of systems
  • A motivation to engage and promote software solutions and bridge the gap between what is possible with current and future VDC software options to the needs of the site.
  • Teach and mentor inexperienced VDC designers with understanding codes, building rules and installation strategies
  • Will work with current technology (Procore Model Viewer, Navisworks, Bluebeam, iPad etc.)
  • Support architecture, engineering, and construction professionals with the ability to standardize, and present technology solutions
  • The person in this role will be a part of the Modern Niagara National VDC Department

Requirements:

  • Currently working as a tradesman with expertise in one of the following trades is required with a willingness to develop knowledge in others;
    • Piping
    • Sheet Metal
    • Plumbing
    • Electrical
    • Multi-trade
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience with the following is preferred:
    • Prefabrication
    • Modular
    • Multi-trade racks
  • Understand and be able to communicate the value of VDC
  • Past job experience demonstrating cost savings and optimization of systems
  • Understand routing optimization, system types, sizing requirements, etc.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical and electrical engineering drawings
  • Proficient in plumbing and electrical codes
  • Ability to review drawings against site conditions
  • Familiar with design development process, and/or experience with design builds
  • Has previous experience working with engineers and VDC designers
  • Experience with Shop prefabrication ideal
  • Very strong sketching skills/ability to perform 3D redlines (in Navisworks environment) so that site instructions/meeting minutes can be communicated back to the VDC team
  • A motivation to engage and promote software solutions and bridge the gap between what is possible with current and future VDC software options to the needs of the site.
  • Willing to teach inexperienced VDC designers to help them understand codes, building rules and installation strategies
  • Be willing to learn Revit to at the minimum a beginner level
  • Be willing and able to learn Navisworks to an advanced level
  • Experience with, or desire to learn any of the following software is a plus:
    • Revit
    • Fabrication CadMEP
    • Fabrication Parts (ITMs)
    • Navisworks
    • Procore
    • Stratus
    • Bluebeam
