We are looking for a Mechanical Insulation Estimator to join our team in Ottawa!


The Mechanical Insulation Estimator will have strong math and analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills as well as exemplary customer service and communication skills. The candidate will be responsible for estimating residential & ICI insulation construction projects, submitting bids, and negotiating change orders during the construction process.


Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate all project documentation, drawings and bid documents to develop a scope of work and subsequent bid to meet all deadlines and budget constraints
  • Responsible for all aspects of the bid including safety, cost, profitability, schedule, and contract terms
  • Perform site visits when appropriate or required before, during, and/or after the bid process and after award
  • Perform take-off and estimating project functions from a set of drawings
  • Proactively identify possible issues and document and address with GC or customer as necessary
  • Update estimates with incoming addendums and provide change order estimation throughout the life of awarded projects
  • Securing pricing estimates from suppliers that are realistic to the project
  • Prepares monthly sales reports and analysis for management


Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years mechanical insulation experience for pipe and duct work
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Understand and be aware of the TIAC best practices
  • Have some background in computer based estimating software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English, time management and multi-tasking in order to prioritize workload and stay on top of things as project demands increase
  • Work to deadlines and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in an office and field environment with a high degree of interaction between management, technical field and office employees 
  • Self-motivated with strong willingness and ability to learn and be challenged
  • Excellent organizational and decision making/problem solving skills
  • Background in construction and a working knowledge of residential & ICI construction projects as well as insulation materials, practices and industry standards
  • The necessary skills to perform under pressure
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, gather information and make decisions with minimal supervision
